Our Story

Iyengar Yoga Hawaii was established in 2018 by Kimberly Mackesy, CIYT, c-IAYT, who relocated with the vision of building a thriving Iyengar Yoga center on the Hawaii Island’s beautiful East side.

Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive space where anyone regardless of age, ability or health status can experience the transformational qualities of Iyengar Yoga. We welcome students of all races and ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations.

Our students include residents of Hilo and surrounding areas, Kea’au, Mountain View, Puna, and visitors from other parts of Hawaii Island. We are also visited by lots of traveling Iyengar Yoga students from all over the world who find their yoga home away from home at our studio.

Our teachers are devoted students of B.K.S. Iyengar who teach with rigor, compassion, and inclusion. We are committed to evolving excellence in teaching, integrity in personal practice, and high ethical standards based on the classical eight limbs of yoga.

The studio is located on the bayfront in downtown Hilo on the second floor, which provides a beautiful bay view and a refreshing ocean breeze. We have a range of helpful props including blocks, bolsters, blankets, belts, wooden props, sandbags and more. This enables our teachers to teach many variations of familiar poses as well as modify poses to meet students’ needs when required.

At Iyengar Yoga Hawaii, the focus is on yoga and on you. Every student receives ample guidance and is supported on their own personal path to transformation.
